This session will help start you on your way to achieving these awards, however,  further sessions may be required and an additional formal assessment will need to be undertaken by a qualified coach in order to achieve these awards.

This session is open only to existing club members and is at additional cost; the standing order does not cover the cost of this session.  The standard pool charges will therefore apply for all attendees of £5 for an adult and £3 for under 18.

Please turn up no earlier than 6:15pm, as the swimming club will still be leaving the pool/changing area, but you must be ready at the poolside by 6:30pm ready for training.

Please note this hour-long session is specifically for this training and not for general casual practice or playing (like in the Saturday session)

River Wye - Kayak from Kearn Bridge to Symonds Yat

Last year we had a couple of great days paddling down this beautiful river and playing on the gentle rapids at the Yat (for those who wanted to), not to mention the excellent BBQ.  See last year’s trip report:

Pool Rota

To inspire young people to take up sport we received £250 which we will be putting towards a Dagger Dynamo.

On Wednesday evening we went to Causeway house and had publicity photographs taken with Cllr Joanne Beavis and Cllr Peter Tattersley.  Rebecca and Elise came along and modelled the boat for us.

You do not need to know the rules as this will be taught on the day – what a great way to learn something and add to your experiences.

He has proposed several dates and I am proposing 04 March for you to attend a refereeing course. (If you are interested but unable to make the date, let me know and I might be able to sort one of the other dates for you). If you pass, this will be valid for 1 year and then you can progress to the practical to be a national grade 4 or grade 3 referee which is valid for 2 years and thereafter easy to be reassessed.
The course on the 04 March last for around 6 hours  and the minimum age is 13. It will be at a local venue as long as we get enough participants.

I have negotiated that if we have the course before the end of March the costs are as follows:
Course £12.50
Course + Rulebook £16.50
Course + Rulebook + Whistle set £20

This includes his expenses and provides you with the goods

This was installed on Saturday 28^th Jan, ahead of the arrival of the new club boats. Hopefully this will go some way to improving the boat storage at the pool.

Swimmer of the year – Keith Tyler –Easter at Saunton

The most noteworthy or comical swim of the year

For persistence at swimming, and the point where he was vertical with the nose of the boat in the sand to be followed by a swim. Not happy with that I understand he swam from several boats over the weekend.

Paddler of the year - Lionel Goddard 

Member who has consistently paddled at the highest level throughout the year, or has achieved an outstanding paddling feat in the year.

The person who will receive this award this year is too old for junior improver, even past the adult improver. Could have qualified for the swimmer of the year, but his swim wasn’t as amusing.  He has not only done outstanding paddling this year but for many years,

He has helped and encouraged many youngsters and members over the years. As our oldest member we think he is outstanding to still be paddling and surfing at 74 so our paddler of the year is Lionel.
