Hi, Just a reminder the date 07 & 08 July is getting closer for the Hull canoe polo weekend. this is a fun two days open to all ages and abilities. We currently have some interested members but need a couple more names to make a team or two. Ideal for families as you play under the shops while others shop!. Sea Kayak Rescue Practice – Alton Water Sunday 27th May

Following on from the previous post, we will meet for this session at 10am at the Alton Water Sailing Centre, I have been advised that we can park in the front Car Park.

The cost will be £5 per boat.

Bures to Nayland trip – Saturday 19th May

We will be running another trip on the Stour this coming weekend; Saturday 19th May, starting from Bures and finishing at the Anchor Inn at Nayland. Please bring your own packed lunch and drinks. All members welcome.

We will aim to be on the water at midday, so please be at the Bures car park around 11:15am – this gives us time to unload, kit up and ferry the cars to Nayland.

Details of the route, start and end points are on the website – Bures to Nayland. The river is a beautiful flowing river with several portages – with the recent heavy rain it may be flowing faster than usual.

If interested in attending, or want to borrow some kit (limited availability), please email BuresPaddle@BraintreeBanoeingClub.co.uk.

Aydens paddle story for Dedham

Heloo- oops, sorry, Hello (I typed to fast) I will be talking about out trip to (err where was it. Oh yeah) Dedham Mill.

There was Me, Mark, Josh, Dave, Graham, Sally, Charles, Charles’ girls and Martin. We set off at 1pm and then we got out. The End.

Dedham to Langham – The Start

Not really!!! We then got back in and headed up the river. We passed a roman looking building with a bench inside. Very posh! We continued up the river. It was hard as we were going against the current. We passed a small cave and a fallen down tree. We passed a bridge and driving past was an Eddie Stobart truck (OMG). We got to the portage and got out and had something to eat.

Then the best thing happened. A girl and her father came and they had a homemade boat and on the boat were 2 rubber ducks (OMG) – I wanted them but they both left

Graham and Sally left us and we continued up. I was starting to want to stop but no one would wait for me We turned round and started going back. We got back out at the portage and then back in.

But then a very scary thing happened: Dave went towards the rapids and they were really fast ones. No one else would go near them but not Dave. Dave went he saw and he got to the end and tipped (arrr). 10 seconds later he was out of his canoe. But piranhas were coming at him. He fought them off and got them to help him get back into his boat. All while we were watching. Ok then, what really happened was Dave put his paddle in at the wrong time and tipped, we went and helped him get back into his boat.

We went back got out and got changed. Day over. Now time to sleep (YAY )

Blackwater Sea Paddle

Saturday 13^th May saw a shakedown sea paddle in preparation for the Scotland trip.

Some 24 miles from East Mersea to Maldon and back in good weather, with a head wind for most of the trip, arriving back at East Mersea at 9.00pm

Its strange how the wind seems to conspire against you, we had a westerly blowing in our face as we took the incoming tide from Mersea to Maldon. Landing first at Osea Island for a bite to eat and then at the prom at Maldon for a brief rest before the return journey. During the rest the westerly dropped for a few minutes. Once we were back on the water the wind started to blow again this time an easterly, in our faces once more.

As the sun started to set the wind dropped leaving us with a very pleasant evening paddle back to Mersea.

Sea Kayak Rescue practice

We would like to run a Sea Kayak rescue day on Alton Waters on Sunday 27th May.

It will be a chance to practice all types of sea kayak rescues, in a safe environment.

You will need to bring your own sea kayak.

Cost for the day will be £5 per boat, you will need all your sea kayaking kit, including pumps and any rescue equipment you have.

You will need a packed lunch and hot flask of drink.

Please let Paul shearman or Dave Puttick know if you are attending ASAP.
