A pleasant evening river paddle from Bures to Nayland along the river Stour.
(All members welcome)
On Friday 31st July the sun will set at 20.49hrs and a Full Blue Moon is expected.
This paddle is an easy introduction to river paddling and is suitable for all BCC members. A very pretty and historic river made famous by the Constable paintings.
There are several portages and wiers on route to navigate around including Bures Mill, Wormingford Mill and Wissington Mill where there is a three step weir for the more confident paddler.
There is a slight current and occasional shallow spot, occasionally narrowing through some reed beds, but still easily navigable.
Therefore, if we were meet at 6.00pm in Bures, this should leave enough time for a car shuttle to Nayland and back, ready to paddle at approx. 7.00pm. The paddle is expected to take approx. 2-4 hours depending on the groups ability.
Hopefully the evening light will last for sometime. There are a few difficult spots along the river but we can work them out as the sun starts to go down.
Please remember to bring some glow sticks (preferably white) for the river and a good torch when you come to load the kayaks back onto the cars.
When we get to the Anchor Inn at Nayland the drinks will hopefully be free flowing!
