This year the FSRT has been reduced into a one day course which was held at Alton Water last Sunday, 27th September.
It was well attended from the Club members. As the day progressed the sun showed up for the afternoon & lunch. As some of you will know from your experiences, kit, weather, safety & working together was the order of the day.
There was plenty of moral support throughout the day from me, Dave N & most of all from Charles Ralli’s son. He will have a good insight into eventuality’s which can happened when we are out on the water; he is 9 years old but some of the course will stay with him.
After all had had lunch it was time to get wet! Starting with capsize rescues leading onto T Kayak rescues, then looking at emptying Canadians & Kayaks. The first two emptied one Canadian full of water & then transfer themselves into it BUT forgot to move their body weight ! So, in the transfer so you can guess what happened to the two Canadians.
As the day progress there was different techniques to get back into the Kayaks. Like rafting up using tow lines, sliding up the back of Kayaks. Then there was the unconscious paddler / in stress which made all think about what could happen to you or others.
So over all it was a hot day but not so hot in the reservoir, with all going home with an understanding of the risks. The aim is for all to look out for each other but make sure all have a fun time when paddling.
