Just a very quick report to say a massive “thank you” to the army of helpers who made last weekend’s annual club BBQ such a massive success. The weather was, for a change, very kind to us and allowed us all to relax and do what we all like doing, canoeing and talking about canoeing 😉
Friday was spent setting up (many thanks for Steve for providing and setting up the marquee) and the evening saw an estuary paddle around Osea island, in sunny, warm and calm conditions.
Saturday was the main event, with more than 20 Canadians and kayaks paddling from Paper Mill Lock down the Chelmer to Heybridge Basin (stopping at Hoe Mill Lock for lunch). On arrival at Heybridge, teas, coffees and homemade cakes were hungrily accepted.
BBQs were lit in the early evening and the festivities continued, with the amazing Robbie Gladwell entertaining around 60 people with a set of well-known past and present songs. Carl Shearman made a guest appearance with Robbie for 6 songs – his first public gig.
Then an unexpected turn of events led to Charles stealing the show…
All in all, a very enjoyable and successful weekend was had by all.
Thanks again to Robbie, Steve and all the army of helpers who made this event possible
