    The documents below detail the British Canoeing’s (BC) Child Protection Policy. Braintree Canoeing Club, being affiliated to BC, fully abides by these policies. The Club’s own detailed policy can be found here.

    ​Disclosure

    BC wishes to ensure that all those taking part in canoeing are able to do so protected and kept safe from harm while they are with staff, coaches and/or volunteers. To help us achieve this, BC has agreed a Disclosure Policy which forms part of all policies and procedures in England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales with respect to Child Protection.

    BC recognises that publicity and pictures/ recordings of young people enjoying Paddlesport are essential to celebrate the achievements of the child and to promote the sport and a healthy lifestyle. However it is important to observe the following guidelines.

    Guidelines for the use of photographic or filming equipment

    Physical Contact

    There are a number of principles that should be followed when the activity involves physical contact. Physical contact during Paddlesport should always be intended to meet the child’s needs, not the adult’s. The coach/ volunteer should only use physical contact if their aim is to:

    Training Programs

    A question often asked is “how much training should a young person undertake – is it enough – is it too much? Whether a coach or parent – how do we train and support young people on the road to elite performance whilst taking account of the needs of a growing mind and body – supporting ambition and avoiding burn out? This is a complex issue with no easy answers. It requires experienced and appropriately qualified coaches working with the paddler and parents to establish the most appropriate.
